Malawi Electoral Commission
Malawi Electoral Commission

The Malawi Electoral Commission comprises a Chairperson, a Judge nominated by the Judicial Service Commission and at least six Commissioners appointed by the President in consultation with political parties represented in Parliament. The President appoints suitably qualified persons to be members of the commission and the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament determines their conditions of Service. The Commission is serviced by a Secretariat headed by the Chief Elections Officer appointed by the Electoral Commission. The CEO is the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission and is answerable only to the Commission

Anti-Corruption Bureau

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is a government department headed by a Director General assisted by a Deputy Director General who are both appointed by the President, subject to ratification by the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament. Other officers of the Bureau are appointed by the Director General following normal procurement procedure. The Bureau commenced full operations on 9th February 1998

Office of the Ombudsman
Office of the Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman is a public body established under the Malawi Constitution section 123 to investigate any and all cases where it is alleged that a person has suffered injustices and it does not appear that there is any remedy reasonably available by way of appeal from court or where there is no other practicable remedy:

The Constitution of the Republic of Malawi established the Law Commission in 1994. The enabling legislation, the Law Commission Act (Cap: 3:09), followed in 1998, 2 years after the commission commenced full operations in 1996. Their primary function is to provide independent advice to Government on the reform of the law in Malawi.

Ministry of Defense

The Ministry of National Defense is mandated to provide policy direction, guidance and oversight on all matters of national defense. The Ministry has an administrative oversight over the Malawi Defense Forces (MDF). The Ministry's mission is to regulate, promote, organize and coordinate the effective performance of the Malawi National Defense in line with the country's Defense Policy and provide strategic direction on capacity building, managing resources and promotion of civil-military relations. The Ministry's mission also extends to facilitation of regional and international peace and order with a view to ensuring the defense and security of the nation and its socio-economic development
